It’s a tea time!

Tea of the month made simple

Making the perfect cup of tea is a subjective endeavor, as preferences vary from person to person. However, there are some general guidelines that you can follow to make a great cup of tea. Here’s a basic procedure (one of many) for making tea using tea bags or loose tea:

1. Choose Quality Tea:
– Start with good quality tea. Whether you’re using tea bags or loose tea, the better the quality, the better the taste.

2. Use Fresh Water:
– Use fresh, cold water every time you boil. Do not use re-boiled water as it loses oxygen, which can affect the flavor.

3. Measure the Tea:
– Tea bags: Usually, one tea bag is perfect for one cup.
– Loose tea: A general rule is one teaspoon of loose tea for every cup.

4. Heat the Water:
– The right temperature depends on the type of tea:
Black tea: Boil water to 200°F – 212°F (93°C – 100°C)
Green tea: Heat water to 175°F – 185°F (80°C – 85°C)
White tea: Heat water to 185°F – 190°F (85°C – 88°C)
Oolong tea: Heat water to 190°F – 200°F (88°C – 93°C)
Herbal tea: Boil water to 212°F (100°C)

5. Preheat the Teapot/Cup:
– Pour a small amount of boiled water into the teapot or cup, swirl around to warm it, and then pour it out.

6. Add the Tea:
– Place the tea bag or loose tea into the teapot or cup.

7. Pour the Water:
– Pour the hot water over the tea.

Black tea: 3-5 minutes

Herbal tea: 5-7 minutes

– Note: Over-steeping can make your tea bitter.

9. Remove the Tea:
– Take out the tea bag or, if you used loose tea, strain the tea into another cup.

10. Add Extras (If Desired):
– Some people enjoy adding milk, sugar, honey, or lemon to their tea. Adjust to your preference.

11. Enjoy!

Tips:
– Adjust the quantity, temperature, and steeping time based on your preference and the specific tea you’re using.
– Store tea in a cool, dark place to maintain its freshness.
– Use filtered water if your tap water has strong flavors or impurities.
